Main Ingredients
  • 6 cups Rice Chex The structural backbone of this recipe.
  • 16 ounces Wiltons Green Icing Serves as the adhesive and color source.
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar Provides the classic dry coating.
  • 3/4 cup Sugar Cookie Mix Adds a distinctive cookie flavor.
  • 1 package Gold Sprinkles For additional decoration.
  • 2 gallon Baggies For mixing the powdered sugar and cookie mix.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Measure 6 cups of Rice Chex into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Lay out a baking pan lined with parchment paper for cooling.
  3. Set a clean 2-gallon bag nearby for later coating.
Combining Ingredients
  1. In one of the 2-gallon baggies, add 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 3/4 cup sugar cookie mix.
  2. Seal the bag and shake gently to combine.
Melting the Icing
  1. Spoon the Wiltons Green Icing into a microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Heat in 15–20 second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth.
Coating the Cereal
  1. Pour the melted green icing over the Rice Chex and fold gently.
  2. Immediately add the gold sprinkles and fold to distribute.
Coating with Sugar
  1. Spoon or pour small batches of the coated cereal into the bag of powdered sugar and sugar cookie mix.
  2. Seal the bag and shake until each piece is coated.
Drying and Finishing
  1. Pour the coated puppy chow onto the parchment-lined pan in a single layer.
  2. Allow to dry for 20–30 minutes at room temperature.
  3. Once dry, add extra gold sprinkles if desired.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. For longer storage, freeze up to one month.
