Ingredients

Dry ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened For better texture, use European-style butter.
  • 1 cup brown sugar Use packed, moist brown sugar for chewiness.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs Use room temperature for better emulsion.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix-ins
  • 1 cup rolled oats Use old-fashioned oats for better texture.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Use high-quality for better melting and flavor.
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup green and blue icing For decorating.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment or a silicone mat.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Cream unsalted butter with brown and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing until each is incorporated, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Fold in rolled oats, chocolate chips, and chopped nuts until evenly distributed.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden brown but centers still look slightly soft.
  2. Allow cookies to cool slightly on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Decorating
  1. Once cooled, decorate with green and blue icing to represent oceans and continents.

Notes

Chill dough for 15-30 minutes before baking for less spread. Serve with a warm mug of tea for a cozy pairing.
