  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Use a spoon-and-level method to avoid dense cookies.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Use high-quality butter (82% fat) for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup brown sugar Pack lightly; mix with granulated sugar for balance.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Fruits & Nuts
  • 1 cup fresh apples, peeled and chopped Choose firm apples like Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji.
  • 1/2 cup walnuts or pecans Optional.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until evenly combined.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter with the brown and granulated sugars until smooth and slightly fluffy.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  5. Gradually fold in the dry mixture until just combined, taking care not to overwork the dough.
  6. Gently fold in the chopped apples and nuts.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and centers are set.
  2. Let the cookies cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For variations, try adding oats or chocolate chips. Store in an airtight container with a paper towel on top to absorb moisture.
