Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour Spoon into measuring cup and level off for best results.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Use room temperature butter.
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar Granulated sugar recommended.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Use pure vanilla extract for best flavor.
Mix-ins
  • Red and blue sprinkles To decorate.
  • Royal icing Optional for decoration.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Press down on each dough ball and add red and blue sprinkles on top.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  10. Decorate with royal icing if desired.

Notes

Cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for a week or frozen for up to three months.
